JURA - krast
phenomenos
 During
the tour we are going to see the castle
on Pieskowa Skała and Jaskinia Ciemna (Dark Cave).
Pieskowa Skała Castle: in the first part of XIVth century a new
castle was built here by Kazimierz The Great. The castle consists of
two parts, upper and lower. The upper part has been damaged and it
was located on an unavailable rock called "Dorotka". The interiors
are used to present an exhibition which is a kind of display
connected with changes in European art since the middle ages up to
the XIX century. Nearby we can find a famous calcareous rock called
Hercules’ Cudgel.
Jaskinia Ciemna (the Dark Cave) - is thought to be the biggest one
in the Upland of Cracow and Częstochowa because of its chamber’s
size, it is also one of the most important archaeological
excavations in Poland. The cave is 230 meters long and actually
consists of one big chamber (80 m long, 20 m wide and 10 meters
high), the air temperature is about 7 - 8 C degrees. The cave is
unlit (that’s why it’s called the Dark Cave), tourists receive
candles. The centre of the chamber is naturally decorated with
stalagmites and stalactites which are even a meter high.
The legend of the stalactites:
Many centuries ago there lived in village Ojców a beautiful gird who
had fallen in love unsuccessfully. Unrequited love pressed her to
jump down from the rock, asking the gods to let her turn into one of
them. Her request was then fulfilled but her heart has never stopped
beating. She is still crying but her petrified tears turn into
stalactite in Jaskinia Ciemnas.
Part of the route is covered on foot: from the castle of Pieskowa
Skała we walk towards Cracow Gate and then to Jaskinia Ciemna from
where we get back to the Gate wandering across the tops of the
rocks. Next we go to eat a traditional dinner in a regional inn or
