APRIL 9th - Palms and Easter Handicraft Competition “wielkanocka

Lipnicka Palma”

This is a competition which has been organized for 40 years and consists of hand making of Easter palms. It is accompanied by: folkloristic bands’ shows, tasting regional dishes, a fair of handicraft, presentation of local customs.

A palm is a traditional sigh of Palm Sunday, which is celebrated to commemorate the entrance of Jesus to Jerusalem. On this day hand made palms are hollowed in church and this custom has been known since the middle ages. This custom is particularly strong in Lipnica Murowana.

There are also a few customs and superstitions connected with palms:

  • a hollowed palm protects people, animals, houses and land from magic, fire and evil in generally

  • if you put the hollowed palm in front of the window during the storm it will protect you from a bolt

  • a whole family has to be sprinkled with the palm because it gives a good health and prevents from starving

Departure from Cracow: 10:00 a.m.

Return to Cracow: about 4:00 p.m.
